The UNC "REDI" Program

Our REDI Program embodies the stated goals of the Wood Center:

  • To Develop and Maintain an Engaged Community
  • To Foster and Support an Experimental Learning Environment
  • To Prepare Community Members for Sustained Career Success

The UNC REDI Intern Program Promotes the following Objectives:

  • To work with Commercial Real Estate partner companies in an industry-changing program to increase overall diverse applicant pool within Commercial Real Estate at the university level
  • To gain a meaningful internship experience through pre-internship training for interviews, gaining industry knowledge, and quantitative skills preparation
  • By working full-time for 8 weeks minimum to gain valuable real-world work experience
  • To participate in program feedback and share experiences with other students across UNC’s campus

Our interns gain a sense of belonging and growth with support of the Wood Center and Industry engagement.  Starting with our boot camp preparation classes, interns meet regularly during their internship to discuss areas of improvement and actionable activities to strengthen their communication skills, advance their technical skills and expand their recruitment relationships.

Hi, my name is Lila Arnold and I am a sophomore from Denver, Colorado. I am majoring in Business with a concentration in Real Estate and minoring in Sustainability. In my spare time I am an avid runner, I help coach "Girls on the Run" and hope to finish my first marathon this year.

My name is Georgia Burkard, and I am a student at UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School studying Business Administration and Sustainability. With the ultimate goal of pursuing a career in real estate investment and development, I am exploring the commercial real estate industry with a sustainable lens. Hi, my name is Kevin Chavez. I am a sophomore from Statesville, NC at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School majoring in Business with a minor in entrepreneurship. Early in the Fall semester of my sophomore year I had the opportunity to participate in the UNC Real Estate Boot Camp where I discovered my interest in Commercial Real Estate. The REDI program has been a great program for me as I explore this career path by teaching me more about Commercial Real Estate, providing me with an alumni mentor, and providing me with a strong support system. This summer I will be interning at Grubb Properties in Charlotte, NC on their Acquisitions and Dispositions team.

Hi, my name is Francisco Marulanda. I’m a rising Junior from Charlotte, NC studying Business Administration at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business school with also a minor in Statistics. I’ve always had an interest in real estate as I spent much of my youth and current days looking at development of cities on google earth. I heard about the REDI program and it was intriguing because it introduced me into the basics of CRE and allowed me to be more passionate about my finance coursework. I spend a lot of my time outside running and playing sports and have a strong passion for sustainability as I’ve been involved in numerous environmental projects for UNC’s RESPEC club. I hope to have a career in the capital markets side of CRE and thanks to REDI I will gain valuable insight this summer interning at Berkeley Capital Advisors in Charlotte, NC as part of the Shopping center team.

Hi, my name is Julia Wakeman and I am from Cornelius, North Carolina! I am involved in multiple organizations at UNC, but spend most of my time as VP of Community Service in Carolina Women in Business and as a peer buddy in Best Buddies club. Some of my hobbies include cooking and fitness activities and sports, especially water sports because I live on Lake Norman. My interest in Real Estate sparked at a young age when I had the opportunity to shadow my father, who is a real estate developer, at work. I am very excited to further my knowledge and continue my career development through the REDI program and at Grubb Properties this summer as a Development Intern!
